The hurricane Alex was the first tropical cyclone of the season in the Atlantic hurricane of 2010. Formed from a storm tropical wave developed slowly in the Caribbean Sea and moved westwards and intensified while organizing to make landfall north of Belize City. Its transition over land in the Yucatan peninsula and weakened, but regained tropical storm intensity upon reentry into the sea in the Gulf of Mexico. Alex was the first hurricane formed in the Atlantic Ocean in the month of June since Hurricane Allison in the 1995 season.
Alex has been responsible for the deaths of at least 23 people in its recurred. The flooding caused another ten victims in Mexico; the storm caused three deaths and two more in Acapulco, Chiapas and Oaxaca, respectively. Finally, after making landfall in Tamaulipas, the Alex hurricane caused seven deaths and one missing in Nuevo Leon. In addition to significant flooding, caused power outages in the North-east of Mexico and the southern tip of Texas.
Monterrey and its metropolitan area, with 3.8 million inhabitants and nearby towns were "destroyed" by Alex hurricane, the rains caused the overflowing of rivers and streams that overflow with dozens of cars were carried, caused damage to roadways and in houses, in particular by the passage of the Rio Santa Catarina, which has an area of 45 km and crosses the city of Monterrey.
